Man of match

New Zealand batter Glenn Phillips was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 71 runs in their 149-run victory over Afghanistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 match on Wednesday.

Phillips came in to bat with New Zealand struggling at 108/3, and he put on a crucial 70-run partnership with Daryl Mitchell for the fourth wicket. Phillips played a very aggressive innings, hitting 10 fours and 1 six. He was eventually dismissed in the 40th over, but his knock had helped New Zealand post a formidable total of 288/6.

Phillips’ innings was especially important considering the fact that New Zealand had lost two early wickets. He played very intelligently and rotated the strike well. He also hit some big shots when required, and his innings helped New Zealand put the pressure on Afghanistan.

New Zealand won the match by a comfortable margin, and Phillips was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding innings.
