Travis Head of Australia won Player of the Match in both the semifinal and final of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He is the fourth player to do this in the same World Cup.
Before Head, three other players had won Player of the Match in the semis and final of a World Cup. They were:
- Mohinder Amarnath of India in 1983
- Aravinda de Silva of Sri Lanka in 1996
- Shane Warne of Australia in 1999
In the final on Sunday, Travis Head top-scored for Australia with 137 runs off 120 balls. His knock included 15 fours and 6 sixes.
Head batted well against good fast bowling from India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. The 29-year-old lefthander became just the second player to score a hundred in a chase in a World Cup final. The only other was Aravinda de Silva in 1996.
With his performance, Head became the sixth Australian to be Player of the Match in an ODI World Cup final.
Earlier in 2023, Head was also Player of the Match when Australia beat India in the World Test Championship final.
