The Parliament Winter Session 2023 is set to witness a crucial moment today as the Ethics Committee’s report recommending the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra in a “cash-for-query” case is scheduled to be tabled in the Lok Sabha. Lok Sabha Ethics Committee member Aparajita Sarangi, the parliamentarian representing Bhubaneswar, is slated to table the report. The report was initially listed in the agenda of the Lower House for December 4 but was not tabled.
Amidst this development, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed the Rajya Sabha during the Winter Session of the Parliament, asserting that India has continuously maintained its position as the fastest-growing major economy. She added that the country’s second-quarter growth has been the highest in the world. Stating that economic activity has been strong across all sectors, Sitharaman highlighted the significant growth in each segment.
In a separate development, Union Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar addressed the allegation of India “plotting to kill” Khalistani separatists on foreign soil. Jaishankar stated that the government is investigating the US’s allegation, which was made based on inputs provided within the framework of security cooperation between the two countries. However, he emphasized that the question of equitable treatment to two countries, one of which has provided inputs and the other has not, does not arise.
