Heartstopper‘s Joe Locke to Make Broadway Debut in Sweeney Todd

Joe Locke, known for his role in the Netflix series Heartstopper, is gearing up to make his Broadway debut in the iconic production of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Starting from Wednesday, January 31, Locke will take on the role of Tobias, marking a significant milestone in his career.

Locke, who is also part of the cast of the currently streaming Netflix series Heartstopper, has garnered acclaim for his performance in the Donmar Warehouse production of The Trials in 2022. His outstanding work in The Trials earned him a WhatsOnStage Award for Best Professional Debut. Additionally, Locke is involved in the Disney Plus/Marvel series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

Sharing the Broadway stage with Locke will be Aaron Tveit and Sutton Foster, who are set to join the Sweeney Todd company on Friday, February 9, portraying the characters of Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett, respectively. The dynamic duo is scheduled for a 12-week run, concluding on Sunday, May 5.

Directed by Thomas Kail and featuring the acclaimed music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim, with a book by Hugh Wheeler adapted by Christopher Bond, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street commenced its performances on February 26, 2023. The Broadway production officially opened its doors on March 26, 2023, at the prestigious Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, promising audiences a captivating and unforgettable theatrical experience.
