During a podcast on ANI, Gautam Gambhir was asked about the Naveen Ul Haq controversy, and it was not specified what the controversy was about.
Gautam Gambhir expressed his stance as a mentor, stating, “No one can come and walk over my players. I have a different belief. While the game is on, I don’t interfere, but once it’s over, if someone still gets into a heated argument with my players, I have every right to defend them.”
Virat Kohli and Naveen Ul Haq later encountered each other on the cricket field during the Cricket World Cup 2023. They reconciled and resolved their differences by hugging it out.
Gautam Gambhir’s intense nature surfaced again on Wednesday in a Legends League match, a tournament for retired stars. He and Sreesanth engaged in a prolonged stare-off during a game between India Capitals and Gujarat Giants. Moreover, they were observed having an animated conversation on another occasion.
On Thursday, the Legends League Cricket (LLC) also released a statement about the argument between the two players, mentioning that they will conduct an internal investigation into the violation of the code of conduct.
“The incident that has garnered attention in the cricketing world violates the code of conduct. Necessary action will be taken against all those who have breached the clear rules outlined by the league’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Committee,” stated LLC in an official statement.
“Legends League Cricket is committed to upholding the spirit of cricket and sportsmanship. We will conduct an internal investigation into the violation of the code of conduct. Any misconduct, whether on or off the field or on social media, will be dealt with strictly. The code of conduct clearly states that necessary action will be taken against players who bring disrepute to the league, the spirit of the game, and the teams they represent. We want to make our position unequivocal and continue working towards sharing the game with millions of cricket lovers across the nation and the world,” said Syed Kirmani, Head of Code of Conduct & Ethics Committee, Legends League Cricket, in an official statement.
